Race 1. (13:20) Nick Johnstone R/E (Bm70) 2400m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

11 Pachino (Bet Now: $5.00) deserves another look. Lightly raced stayer for Ben Brisbourne that put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce before going to Flemington two weeks back where he was backed with confidence at a price but had zero luck in the straight when seemingly having something to offer and should have finished much closer behind Princess Rhaenys. Better luck in running, he can take this out.

Danger

9 Wahine Toa (Bet Now: $4.00) is creeping up in the weights but it’s hard to knock the way she is going. Spank job won two back at The Valley before going here where Cartwright gave her a peach and she was there to win but couldn’t quite get there when beaten narrowly by So Unusual, with a gap to third. Maps to get a sweet run in transit and has the runs on the board to prove hard to beat.

Long shot

2 Prince Ziggy (Bet Now: $18.00) is third up from a spell and should be near peak fitness for Jamie Edwards. Second up run came at Flemington over 2000m where he was near the speed throughout and tried hard but being second up, his condition just ran out and tired, finishing down the track behind Princess Rhaenys. Like him up to 2400m and has good upside to come compared to most.

Race 2. (13:55) Catanach Jewel Mary Bell-Bm70 1400m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

6 Rioyuki (Bet Now: $4.00) looks ready to win third up from a break. Resumed with a fast finishing second over 1200m at Warrnambool before going to 1400m at Flemington two weeks ago and she rocketed to the line late, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Belle Et Riche. Should hold a forward spot from the gate, has good upside to come and will be strong. Hard to beat.

Danger

4 Defining (Bet Now: $4.00) has good upside to come you’d assume and her best is certainly good enough to take this out. Resumed with a very good effort on Ballarat Cup Day before having a mini break. She then went to the midweeks at Sandown and was a bit one paced when originally asked but stayed on and was good in defeat when a close up fifth to Field Of Praise. Fitter, she deserves another look.

Long shot

8 Soaring Eagle (Bet Now: $101.00) is a David Briedoake trained mare that resumes. She has been a frustrating horse to follow but she can bob up from time to time. Had a busy Winter prep where she ran well for the most part at this sort of level. Not a noted fresh horse but her recent jumpout was encouraging and she is a dry track horse so she gets conditions to suit to run a race fresh.

Race 3. (14:30) Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) 1000m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

2 The Instructor (Bet Now: $2.25) just has to run up to the debut win and I think he’ll be making it 2/2. Lot of arrogance about his debut win at Pakenham, producing sustained speed from the front and giving nothing else a look in, winning comfortably and was getting better as the race went on, so for me, he’ll be strong at the end of 1000m here and is clearly the one to beat.

Danger

8 Goodes (Bet Now: $11.00) is a very well named colt for Team Freedman that is on debut. He is called Goodes out of a mare called Apologynotaccepted. He had a Spring prep without a run and was spelled after the second jumpout. He has come back this time in with a couple of jumpouts, the latest seeing him lead throughout at Flemington and I thought he moved very well. Market watch.

Long shot

3 Corniche (Bet Now: $11.00) has to be given respect here. Wasn’t given much hope with the ride when debuting a few weeks ago at The Valley, sitting wide no cover in a field of five but didn’t mind the way he stuck on in defeat behind Croatian Belle. Trained on the track and I am thinking the form out of that race will hold up pretty well, so he is one of the main contenders for me.

Race 4. (15:05) Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) 1000m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the debut win of 1 Exploring (Bet Now: $8.00) at Flemington so I am surprised double figures are available for her. She led throughout and was strong to the line. She was there to be beaten but found and had a bit in hand. Has the weight penalty for that win, but she looks a good mover, lands near the speed and should prove hard to run down.

Danger

2 Aditi (Bet Now: $3.10) is an Exceed And Excel filly for GaiBott that resumes. She hasn’t raced since the Spring when debuting in the Maribyrnong Trial and kept finding the line in a good effort when second to Zulfiqar. Sharp trial win in Sydney to get ready, should land in a plum spot from the gate and gets J Kah to steer so she has a bit in her corner.

Long shot

4 Picky (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Team Corstens trained filly that appeals as a key winning chance. She was kept relatively safe in betting when debuting at Flemington on New Years Day and worked to the line strongly but I think bumped into a pretty smart one in Exploring, but did comfortably beat the race. Gate makes things tricky, but with a drag into the race, she’ll be strong late.

Race 5. (15:40) Evergreen Turf (Bm70) 1400m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

8 Just Johnno (Bet Now: $5.00) looks ready to win. He has been excellent in two runs back from a spell. Ran second fresh on Pakenham Cup Day before going to 1300m here and was good to the line late in the piece behind Netanyahu. I am hoping the inside gate is used to advantage and if that happens, then he is quite clearly the one they have to beat.

Danger

3 Fitter (Bet Now: $6.50) and up to 1400m are two big ticks for Sandy Prince. He resumed a few weeks ago down the straight at Flemington over 1100m and I think he just found them a bit sharp late but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Jungle Jim. He seems to race best at 1400m and getting back to a bending track can see him run a much improved race. Hard to beat with his best form.

Long shot

11 Danish Fortune (Bet Now: $16.00) is flying without winning and is one for multiples. He ran just under two weeks back at Murray Bridge when wide no cover from the gate and was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding the line and was good in defeat behind the Grand Host. Not sure he can beat these, especially with a tricky gate, but he can certainly finish top four.

Race 6. (16:20) WJ Adams Stakes 1000m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

Looks to be really good speed here so want to be on something sitting back and being strong late. 4 Dragonstone (Bet Now: $7.00) is indeed that and double figures, he’s worth a ticket. He ran on New Years Day at Canterbury in the Canterbury Sprint and found the line well from off the pace when third to dynamic winner It’s Me, who is one of the most in-form mares in the country. They’ll go quickly here and it sets up for him to launch.

Danger

5 Star Patrol (Bet Now: $2.15) is the obvious but you’d assume this is a tune up for the Oakleigh Plate and seems a tad on the short side. He hasn’t raced since August 27 at Caulfield when a close up third to quality sprinter Shooting For Gold. A couple of Cranbourne jumpouts have been quite good and despite a tricky gate to overcome, he has the brilliance to do a number on these.

Long shot

6 On The Lead (Bet Now: $6.00) will launch late. He did that at this track/distance last time, where he sat back in a race where they went crazy in front, setting it up for a backmarker, which he was, and launched late to win. He’ll be spotting them a start once again but if he’s within range 300m out, he has the finale to overhaul them.

Race 7. (17:00) Manfred Stakes 1300m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. But seriously, there are problems and connections are in trouble if 1 Jacquinot (Bet Now: $1.85) doesn’t beat this lot. He’s the best horse in the race by a mile and first up at 1300m, albeit a slight query to the eye, is fine when you deep dive given he was given a good hitout to win a recent 1000m jumpout and has eyes on the CF Orr and/or Futurity. He should be winning.

Danger

Jacquinot stands out. Outside him, the best horse in the race for me is 10 Climbing Star (Bet Now: $10.00) and I am keen to see her resume. Phillip Stokes trained filly that is first up after a promising opening prep in the Spring, which ended on Oaks Day in the Inglis Bracelet when second to a quality mare, Roots. She looks forward enough to run well here fresh and a big key will be dry ground. She looks like a dead set dry tracker.

Long shot

6 Merry Mac Boy (Bet Now: $8.50) will take beating if he lands on speed, gets it cheap and the track is playing up/in. He resumed at this track/distance where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a good kick but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Netanyahu. Better for the run, should find the front and give a bold sight.

Race 8. (17:40) John Dillon Stakes 1400m

* Above offers may only be available to select customers.

Back Me

I think you have to take a chance on 7 Normandy Bridge (Bet Now: $11.00), because he could have panels on this lot. High quality French import that resumes for the Maher/Eustace camp after a one run Autumn prep last year, where he was plain in the Carlyon behind Earlswood. I thought he trucked in a recent Cranbourne jumpout and if he brings his French form, he’d beat these. Near double figures is more than enticing.

Danger

5 Dawn Passage (Bet Now: $8.50) is a key threat. GaiBott trained gelding that resumed just under two weeks ago in the Standish at Flemington where it was essentially a barrier trial so he was suited by being near the speed and couldn’t dash late when second to a noted straight track horse, Snapper. Better for the run, up to 1400m, more genuine pace, hard to beat.

Long shot

12 William Thomas (Bet Now: $41.00) is one for wider multiples at a big price. He ran down the straight just under two weeks back where he was tardy away, settling near last in the run, and was never a threat, but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind D’Jumbuck. I couldn’t back him to win but he’s certainly going well enough to sneak a first four spot at a price.
