There are times when golf equipment is such a difference maker, it doesn’t need a lot of outside noise. The performance says it all.

But it sure doesn’t hurt when others toot the horn and talk about how good the product really is.

With the eyes of the golf industry on the annual PGA Show in Florida this week, there’s a lot of buzz about Callaway Golf less than a month into the competitive season. Callaway’s Paradym golf clubs have already helped push Jon Rahm, the hottest golfer on the planet, to two tournament wins in January. Last week, at the American Express Championship, the Callaway ambassador had a Paradym Triple Diamond driver, three wood and five wood in his bag as he shot 27-under for the victory. Paradym is 3-for-3 on the PGA Tour in 2023 with Si Woo Kim’s victory at The Sony Open. Also using the Paradym Triple Diamond driver, Xander Schauffele finished in a tie for third, at 25-under, last week.

The Paradym clubs – the new line goes from driver to irons and everything in between – of course, aren’t just for the world’s best golfers. Golf pro/super YouTuber Rick Shiels (he has 2.44 million followers) called Paradym the “The Driver to Beat in 2023.” Big praise. But he’s not the only one. Crank up the Google machine and check out the reviews. People are raving about Callaway’s latest, which has plenty of bells and whistles and follows on the heels of the wildly successful launches of Epic, Mavrik and Rogue.

“In my 10 years here, this is probably the most exciting lineup I’ve seen; it’s unreal,” said Bruce Carroll, Callaway Golf Canada’s general manager. “It reminds me of when we launched Epic in 2017; at that point, there was nothing like it on the market. This has the potential to do that, for sure. Staffers from across the country came in during November and December and they were raving about it. I know we have something good when my friends are asking me, ‘When is it going to ship?’ “

So why buy Paradym? What kind of difference can it make for your game? With technology buzzwords like Jailbreak and AI, think distance and accuracy; it provides plenty of each.

“Every company talks about long and forgiving; we’re a company that delivers on both,” said Carroll. “Since Epic launched in 2017, we’ve significantly expanded on our capabilities with AI (artificial intelligence) faces from our drivers now into our forged irons. It’s very different from what other companies are doing. The face is helping to promote tighter downrange dispersion. It’s very forgiving, it’s fast. It’s got a new Jailbreak system. We have years of experience working with carbon and we’re putting titanium where it’s needed. On top of that, it looks super cool.”

So, here’s the technology of it. The Paradym drivers offer an industry-first 360-degree carbon chassis (eliminating titanium from the body) to provide maximized speed and stability. The triaxial carbon crown and forged carbon sole are 44% lighter than a titanium chassis, which allows this massive amount of weight savings to be repositioned toward the front of the clubhead for fast ball speed and toward the back of the clubhead for increased forgiveness.

As for fairway woods, the AI-designed Jailbreak Batwing Structure (that just sounds cool) is pushed to the perimeter to stiffen the body, while allowing the face to flex for high ball speeds. Plus, each model has been uniquely designed with a specific player in mind to maximize performance.

With Paradym Shift construction on the hybrids, the Cutwave Sole design is engineered to improve the club’s performance through the turf.

Paradym irons offer the company’s most powerful AI-designed forged 455 face, with fast ball speeds from the face cup and hollow body with speed frame construction. There’s an exceptional feel from a forged face and patented urethene microspheres. And, these irons are designed for improved launch via dual tungsten weighting. Each of the iron faces are made specifically for the head of that club.

The artificial intelligence has evolved to the point where so many virtual iterations are coming up, the computer has to be turned off or it will just keep going and going.

There are three choices for the Paradym driver: Paradym, Paradym X and Paradym Diamond.

Explained Carroll: “Paradym is for the average guy; it’s going to fit a lot of people. The X is a bit more forgiving, it’s something that would help if you’re fading or slicing the ball too much. Triple Diamond is for the better player; it’s a fade-bias driver, with lower spin.”

Callaway has again come up with a name for the lineup of clubs that resonates.

“Coming up with a name is hard,” said Carroll. “It’s not just coming up with the right name. First it’s, ‘Is it available?’ Paradym is a name that really sticks out.”

With golf club technology providing so many good options to help golfers trim their score, manufacturers like Callaway continue to take it up a notch. Again. And again.

Said Carroll: “I tell people, ‘We’re just at the beginning.’ If you listen to our R and D people talk, they’re still learning. ‘How can we make this better? What can we ask AI?’ “

It’s all good news for golfers.

Callaway also continues to have huge success with its Supersoft golf balls, with a new cover helping to gain more spin control around the greens.

“Supersoft has been wildly successful,” Carroll said. “People like it because it’s soft and feels great, but, really, it’s a flat-out distance ball.”
